  • What degree of difficulty is a Cycle España tour? It’s challenging. That said, one biker’s challenge could be another’s piece of cake. The roads are hilly. They twist and turn as they climb the mountains. Call me and we can talk in detail. 1-800-649-9970

    Do I have to bring my own bike? Yes. Bikers feel more comfortable and confident using the bike they always ride.

    What’s the best way to bring my bike? Checked baggage is the easiest and safest. Most airlines include it as one of your two luggage allowances. Some charge. Check with the airline. See Travel

    Do I need any special equipment or clothing? Yes, bring a road bike, a helmet meeting Snell or ASNI standards, and protective glasses. Please call or e-mail me for specific info on your needs. mark@cyclespana.com . Walkers need walking boots with ankle support.

    How are the accommodations? Excellent. La Perdi, where you will spend most nights, is super clean and newly renovated. Each room has a new, modern bathroom and the beds are extra comfy. Most rooms have balconies.

    Do we get any free time? Yes, you have late afternoon and all evening. We ride every day, however you are free to take as much time off as you like. There’s plenty to do, lots of other activities, or feel free to relax.

    How large are the groups? No more than 15 bikers.

    What’s the weather like? Cool to warm as we tour in the spring and fall. For specific monthly temperatures check CALENDAR.

    When does it rain? In late fall and winter. We do get an occasional shower.

    What kind of clothing? Be prepared for cool weather as the higher elevations can get chilly. Bike clothing for the rides and nice casual for town.

    What are the roads like? How much traffic?

    The roads are smooth and seldom traveled; you rarely see a car. They twist and turn frequently. Low guardrails edge the roads at the curves. Click VIDEO to experience an actual ride from the biker’s POV. Less than 5% is on highway; we use them only to make a connection to a back road.

    What’s the best way to get to San Mateo? Fly into Barcelona, Reus, or Valencia then rent a car. San Mateo is 2 to 2.5 hours from these cities. See Travel for more info.

    What if my spouse/traveling companion doesn’t ride?
    Have them join our Walking Tour. See WALKS for details. The walks are fun. Can be as stimulating or laid back as one wishes
